This is not all meant to be "abusive"-- you seem to have more innate talent than most of the other photographers shown here. Your current work is fair, but it has the potential to be much more. A few pieces of advice:<br /> 1. The poetic bits are endearing, but your work will be much stronger without them. They scream: "cliched artsy adolescent!!!" This is ok-- you will most likely outgrow this in a few years (I certainly went through that stage myself).<br /> 2. I don't know if you are aware of Gillian Wearing's work, but she did the exact same project with asking people to write a message & photographing them with it in the 80's. Its ok to be imitating artists, especially when you are just figuring art out, but you should be aware of it and gradually move away from it. If you didn't know of Gillian Wearing, you should check her work out-- its damn good stuff (though I like her videos more than her photos). Also, look at the work of Willian Eggleston (the hero of contemporary photography), Philip-Lorca diCorsica, David Hockney (he did collages like yours), and other contemporary photographers-- I wish I had been more exposed to contemp. photo. before I got to art school. Photography is really not so much about taking interesting shots anymore than employing interesting ideas. <br /> You seem to have the right idea-- keep going. Good luck. The concept of the street photography really struck me, but what had stood out more is what the people had written. "Tick Tock," "When we're Born," and "Disaster" all seemed to express as impending armageddon. And the fact that these were merely random people made it all the more frightening. I have a real soft spot for your photos because of my love for black and white and because of your photos subtle darkness, which i feel society doesn't have enough appreciation for. I usually stick mainly to my paintings, movies and poetry but when i go to university next year photography is definitly a field i hope to explore more thoughly. I'm dong a project in College at the moment, about drug abuse and peer pressure, and I was hoping that I could use your work in my project to inspire my final piece. I need to do a piece of writing about you, such as, Where you go/went to school? What inspired you? When and where you were born? Just information about you. We have to do critical and contextual writing and I would be really grateful if I could use you in my project. You're the only photographer that I've found who takes raw, slightly disturbing pictures. Most photographers try to capture the beauty of things whereas you capture moments from everyday life. It really brings your attention to the reality of the whole situation. I want to do a photoshoot where I make some of my friends look like drug addicts. I want it to look disturbing and shocking so that people become aware of whats happening to the world. I also really love that poem at the top of the screen 'Inbetween the eyes of hatred...' it's really pwerful.
