Sean Penn is obviously a far better actor and deserved the Oscar, as well as the other award he got for his brilliant role in Msytic River. That was my favorite role for the year. Sean Penn played his usual hood, which he did more movingly in Dead Man, for which he should have received it. Tom Cruise surely should have received one for born on the fourth. (The list of the snubbed is so long.) I have previously hated the Academy for being such whores, though they seem to have begun to turn it around.
