getunderground
Article from The Book Los Angeles.
"All I wanted to do was bring all my artist friends together in one place," says Getunderground.com's chief editor Shlomo Sher. Shlomo's vision has become a reality. What started as just a few dedicated artists in LA has grown to a 100+ writers and artists on 4 continents. Tons of content: Articles, music reviews, poetry, photography, video, & paintings…
Associate editor Star Jewel Smith says, "Get Underground is a unique and diverse community that is
fresh and alive with the creative words and images of uninhibited self expression…a home for free thinkers who desire more from life. We provide a venue for writers, poets, artists, and musicians to exhibit, practice, and fine-tune their craft. Our goal is to question and examine society and life and change the world by bringing light to the hidden beauty of underground culture."
In just over a year & a half, getunderground.com has had articles on emerging musical superstars like Cody ChestnuTT & many other painters, poets, turntablists & photographers. The site has become a creative hub for LA artists as well as contributors in London, New York, Philly, Australia, Japan & more. The site has put artists in touch from all over the world.
Here we see the global village take new life.
Blog! Short for Web logs, the rise of the Internet has created new forms of publishing. All sorts of web magazines are out in the infinite realms of cyberspace. Many are clever, some are flash animated, but most are short-lived these days. The magic of Getunderground is that it has the technical polish of a more corporate site while still maintaining the edginess of an underground 'zine. Shlomo explains,
"Underground relates to the reasons why we do things, the ideals we share and the ways we live our lives according to them day by day. This is my culture. We are the latest bohemians and we call ourselves members of the 'Underground.'"
Shlomo & his team of four editors work hard updating content, writing articles & everything else it takes to keep a site tight searching for, "the substance underneath- simple, yet progressive, drawing bold stokes of creative resistance designed for the emancipation of the human spirit."
Log on & see why Getunderground.com is truly intriguing. You could get lost for hours on the site just looking at brilliant paintings & photos or reading poems & articles. There's urgency in the work emitting vibrant life.
