Los Angeles’ multicultural alternative rock collective Ozomatli have extended an invitation to their fans to lend their own artistic touch to Ozomatli’s new album, Don’t Mess With The Dragon, released April 3rd on Concord Records.

Ozomatli are asking their rabid fan base to create a video for their new anthem “City Of Angels”. The Top five entries will be chosen by the band themselves. The top three winners will be voted on by fans and will receive cash prizes... PLUS the chance for their video to be screened at a special live event in California.

Ozomatli have offered materials - live video footage & an .mp3 of the song - at their official band site, “Ozomatli.com”.  Imagination is the only limitation. Fans can use either the supplied footage and/or supplement it with their own creative video ideas. Mash it, smash it, cut it up or start fresh with something completely new.  Creativity and vision is the goal.

The “Make Your Own Ozomatli Video Contest” is open from February 15th thru March 15th. All entries must be submitted to the Ozomatli.com site before March 15th, 2007. The top five video entries chosen by the band will be posted on Ozomatli.com on March 19th. Fans will vote for the top three winners, which will be announced and screened at a symposium taking place at USC, March 27th  hosted by Josh Kun, (Annenberg Professor and Director of the Popular Music Project at the Norman Lear Center). Following the video screening, there will be a panel discussion with Ozomatli about their history, their music’s relationship to the neighborhoods of Los Angeles, activist/politics/social change and new ideas of community in the digital age.

Entry and official rules, including details and materials for the “Make Your Own Ozomatli Video Contest” can be found at:  www.ozomatli.com

The grand prize winner of the video competition will receive $2,000 and the chance to have their winning video screened at the aforementioned live event on March 27th, 2007. The second place will winner will receive $1,000, plus autographed Ozomatli merchandise and the third place winner will receive $500, plus autographed Ozomatli merchandise.

The Ozomatli “Make Your Own Video Contest” is presented by The Norman Lear Center’s Popular Music Project, Concord Records, USC Spectrum and USC Annenberg.
