DAX SAVAGE: THE DANCECHILD IS A DANDY DOWNER
The future of electronic/pop music is as bleak as our short-term future in Iraq, although that might be stretching it a bit. What's more savage? The name or the sounds? Read on...
If Dax Savage is any sign of where electronic or, more immediately, Pop music is heading in the 21st Century, then it's time to burn down the farm, don't bother to buy it...it ain't worth it. This is the Big Downer. If his lilted, virtually non-existent melodies aren't enough of an indication that Dax Savage is a worse than mediocre musician, then his (beyond) cliche lyrics should remove any doubt. Even the techno backgrounds seem older than Steve Rubell's balls (God rest).
The only worse thing than bad music is bad music that takes itself seriously. And Dax Savage does just that when he hits those not-so-impressively high notes and delivers his signature brand of bogus dance music with a sad sincerity. Brutality is sometimes all you can give to someone if you care about them. And I care about Dax Savage. As a fifth-rate performer and a pathetic songwriter, he is shit, but as a human being? I have to call him my brother...because we breathe the same air.
So because I love him like I love all my brethren...
Message to Savage: Take the glitter kids and go back up the street before your whole rag team of pseudo-musicians catches a beating from the Real thing.--Bob Freville
